Advisors' Opinion:- [By Selena Maranjian]
Other companies didn't do as well last year, but could see their fortunes change in the coming years. Dietary supplement maker Star Scientific (NASDAQ: STSI ) sank 60%, with some investors worried about persistent net lossesand even scandals. In its last quarter, the company blamedits growing losses on increased sales efforts, and also noted significant legal costs related to investigations and class-action lawsuits. Bulls noted solid sales growth for its inflammation-treating supplement, Anatabloc.

To say that Star Scientific, Inc. (NASDAQ:STSI) has become one of the market's most contentious stocks lately would be an understatement. Less than two days after shares finally broke above a key line in the sand at $2.11, a fairly scathing piece was posted that (and probably solely intended to do so) knocked STSI back under that key level, deflating any of the newly-developed bullishness surrounding the nutritional supplement company.
- [By Bryan Murphy]
The last time I looked at Star Scientific, Inc. (NASDAQ:STSI) was in mid-August, when I pointed out how the stock looked like it was finally beginning a breakout via a move above that nagging ceiling at $2.11. I didn't revisit it in the meantime because STSI peeled back under that key resistance level, and even back under its short-term moving lines. It wasn't a dramatic or painful pullback, but it was more than enough to put the breakout idea on the shelf until further notice.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Benjamin Shepherd]
While there are several exchange-traded funds (ETFs) devoted to TIPS, my favorite is PIMCO 1-5 Year US TIPS Index (NYSE: STPZ).
This ETF has one of the lowest durations of any of the TIPS funds at 2.7 years, so it won’t take much of a ding based on shifting interest rates.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By James E. Brumley]
Seacoast Banking Corporation of Florida (NASDAQ:SBCF) is certainly no Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) or Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:BAC), but then again, that may be a good thing - both larger banks are still dealing with the headaches of their sheer size. The smaller bank is far more nimble, and better still, appears to be on the verge of doling out a huge reward for shareholders.

One that recently crossed my radar as an "avoid" is small-cap bank Seacoast Banking Corp. of Florida (NASDAQ: SBCF ) (henceforth known here as Seacoast to make our lives easier).
